the iron Coasts history is different from the rest of the nations of the world. they do not really have a recent recorded history or a history at all. until quite recently the iron coast was home to the demons of the north. the demons enslaved the natives, known as the Mountain People, for war and labor. before the enslavement the Mountain people looked just like all the other races of men but were nomadic and still very tribal. the iron coast was not ruled by the Mountain People but by the North which is where most of the conflict comes from between the two. after the enslavement by the demons the Mountain People were corrupted. the skin and hair grew dark as if it was burned which is why they are now known as the ashen folk and their strength and speed grew to facilitate the needs of the demons. although free from the demons now, the signs of their past still remain.
the ashen folk's name doesn't only indicate their darkened features but also their capital area, the Sootlands. the Mountain People were named for the large mountain that they lived around but this mountain turned out to be a portal to a plane of demons. the mountain exploded like a volcano and out came the demons to control the lands. the mountain still spews soot and ash out turning the land into a black wasteland. the land is also rich in iron hence the name and the desire for the resource poor north to want to take over.
The ashen folk gained their independence from the demons of the north when Nceku rallied the free ashen people and drove the demons back to their mountain Nceku is currently the leader of the ashen folk pushing them towards their first settlements. Nceku instilled in his people a strong sense of honor, duty, and kindness that the other nations of the world boast about but don't necessarily practice. nonetheless, the ashen folk are among the most hated people sue to their past and vast differences compared to other human races.
